Can you ever imagine that young people from Nigeria can be so innovative?

Does it cross your mind that under-20s could be so committed and organised,converging thrice a week for football practice?

Has it ever occured to you that young boys from spartan families can be great dreamers ,damning all odds to bring out the best from their potentials?

Can young minds be so determined to be great even amidst social vices?

If your answers are yes,then,you seem to know our history already.

Donsunky football club is a metamorphosis from neighbourhood evening football to an organised recreational football club.It all started in 2007 with very few under-20 boys coming together every evening to play football.One of us played host to the players in his parents' home.An openground in the compound meant to be a carpark became a football pitch accomodating 3-aside. Withtime,the increased number of players became motivated and inspired to play at an improved level.We deemed it fit to get a larger pitch to cater for the increasing number of playing teams.Thus,we moved to clear a bushy portion outside the compound.That portion could accomodate 5-aside.It helped a longway in discovering ourselves.

By April 2008,we had many boys coming from around the neighbourhood to play.Then,the need to be focused,more committed and organised arose.We have always had a great vision and the opportunity to expand came.This led to the appointment of a trainer/coach and a captain for the club.Afterwhich the name,DONSUNKY FC emerged.

Our field became inefficient and underdimensional for a soaring number,so we rented a standard pitch which belongs to one of the Public secondary schools around.The distance from our various homes could not debar us as we have to travel almost three kilometres for practice.

Donsunky FC is a discovery club,the discovery of our talent has always been our target.This is why we have engaged in many friendlies and tournaments,where in mostcase,we emerged triumphant.

COACH’S COMMENT ON PLAYERS

The principal role of the club is to give players the rudiment of football, train them well and make them ready to play elsewhere. It is not in our blueprint to keep players.

With constant training our players have become ones to be reckoned with in the game of soccer. Players ages range from 10-20.They are skillful and very talented to catch spectators’ attention when playing.

Frankly, as the coach of the club, their excellent foot work baffles me. They are players any coach is proud of.

I aspire to see them leave the amateur level and play on a professional level, trying football elsewhere.

Though we are young, (the coach not an exclusion) we have what it takes to effect a change in the game of football. Our players can play in the toughest league. I bet they are the best a coach can find.

I commend them to clubs all over the world. Try Nigerian talents and see how resourceful they can be. Soccer with donsunky FC boys is undoubtedly interesting.

WE CAN

Don sunky FC is a sort of a dreamers' club. Team of optimists, who have not allowed constraints to make us lose sight of a bright future, where opportunities abide. The confidence that the club is a stepping stone to professionalism has kept us together.

With the support and encouragement of big clubs that will not despise a little beginning, our players CAN become great players.

We levy ourselves in the club when needs arises just to make sure that fund is no excuse enough to wane our determination. Yes, our effort brings us little but we CAN become proud owners of a standard pitch if, well-meaning individuals will come to our aid and enrich us with fund.

We CAN have sufficient balls, training equipment, classically customised jerseys and other kits if, sport-loving individuals, corporate bodies and designers will take up the responsibility of keeping our dreams alive through aids and encouragement.

We are not skeptical that our dream CAN be broadened by having philanthropists take over our small beginning and transform Donsunky FC into a football academy.

Someday our team CAN leave the Nigerian shores to play with foreign youth clubs or academies.

Yes we CAN; our dream of a global recognition can materialise when people rise to sponsor us, when our players are tried and seen worthy to play abroad.

We solicit the support of every clubs, coaches, designers, corporate bodies, sport-loving individuals and every well-meaning persons because, WE CAN.
